Description

Heavy flake red oak veneer, also known as quarter cut heavy flake red oak wood veneer or tiger flake red oak veneer is typically a warm light tan-brown to a pinkish reddish brown color. It is available in 4’ x 8’ and 4’ x 10’ FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed veneer sheets with the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Flakey red Oak wood veneer is also available as 8′ x 4′ cross grain sheets and with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback or Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order.

It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. The flake or fleck is produced when the medullary ray is sliced while the log is quarter cut. Heavy flake red oak wood veneer is often considered a high or premium grade veneer and allows for very little defects such as occasional pin knots and/ or mineral streaks. Red oak is a common American hardwood that is easy to work with and strong. Due to the lack of tylose in its cells quarter cut heavy flake red oak veneer has a coarse texture and an alternating tight to porous grain that is interrupted by the flakey figure. Heavy flake quarter cut red oak wood veneer is often stained and accepts finishes well which heighten the visibility of the flake and makes it appear lighter relative to the rest of the grain.
