Description

Sapele veneer is a medium pinkish to reddish brown wood with a nice medium consistent grain. It can be a nice alternative to South American Mahogany or when quarter cut it can have a distinct ribbon stripe grain. It is available in 4′ x 8′, 4′ x 10′ and 8′ x 4′ sizes as FlexVen™ 10 and 20 paper backed, Tuf-Pli™ polyback, Pli-Flex™ wood on wood, or cross grain veneer sheets with a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option.

It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Quarter cut sapele veneer is known for its prominent and lustrous ribbon stripe figure which is produced when the logs are quartered. Standard A grade quarter cut sapele wood veneer commonly allows for some small defects such as occasional pin knots and small grain deflections. Sapele is an African hardwood of medium density that is often used as a substitute for South American mahogany. It is easy to work with and strong, with a satiny texture, tight uniform grain and consistent color. Quarter cut sapele wood veneer will accept stains and finishes well which accentuate the ribbon stripe figure.
