Flat cut sapele veneer, also known as plain sliced sapele wood veneer or flat cut sapeli veneer, is typically a deep pinkish-red brown to a darker rusty brown color. It’s available as 4′ x 8′ and 4′ x 10′ sheets in FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed with a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Sapele wood veneer is also available with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback and Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order.
It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Flat cut sapele veneer has well defined cathedrals and lustrous grain. Standard A grade flat cut sapele wood veneer commonly allows for some small defects such as occasional pin knots and small grain deflections. Sapele is an African hardwood of medium density that is often used as a substitute for South American mahogany. It is easy to work with and strong, with a satiny texture, tight uniform grain and consistent color. Flat cut sapele wood veneer will accept stains and finishes well which accentuate the grain’s luster.
