American Walnut veneer, sometimes referred to as black Walnut, is light grayish brown to chocolate brown in color. It has a fine to medium texture and finishes nicely with stain or natural clear coats. Walnut wood veneer is available in 4′ x 8′, 4′ x 10′ and 8′ x 4′ sizes as FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed, Tuf-Pli™ polyback, Pli-Flex™ wood on wood or cross grain veneer sheets with a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option.
It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Standard A grade flat cut walnut wood veneer tends to be uniform in color and commonly allows for some defects such as occasional pin knots and very slight figure or flashing. Walnut is a hardwood of medium density, very easy to work with and strong. It is light with a uniform moderately coarse texture and medium porous grain. Walnut wood veneer will accept stains and finishes well but is most often finished with a clear coat that preserves the warmth and accentuates the color and beauty of the wood’s natural grain.
