Description
Wenge veneer is naturally dark brown in color. It is an open grain wood that accepts finishes well. The deep dark color of the wood adds dramatic effect by itself or a bold contrast with other woods. It is available in 4’ x 8’ and 4’ x 10’ FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed veneer sheets with the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Wenge wood veneer is also available as 8′ x 4′ cross grain sheets and with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback or Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order.
It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Quarter cut wenge is sometimes referred to as rift cut wenge. Quarter cut wenge wood veneer is uniform and due to its dark coloration, very bold in appearance. Wenge is a West African hardwood that is very dense, hard and heavy with a coarse texture and a porous grain. Generally, standard grade quarter cut wenge veneer is relatively straight grained with occasional grain deflections and small pin knots. Wenge wood veneer will accept finishes well but care should be taken to remove all sanding dust from the pores. It is almost never stained.
