Description
Douglas fir veneer, also known as vertical grain douglas fir wood veneer or vertical doug fir veneer is typically a pale yellow to a reddish golden light brown color. It is almost exclusively quarter cut (rift cut) to produce a tight vertical grain appearance with a mild pinstripe contrast. Vertical Grain Douglas Fir veneer available in 4′ x 8′, 4′ x 10′ and 8′ x 4′ sizes as FlexVen™ 10, FlexVen™ 20 or cross grain paper backed veneer sheets with a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Douglas Fir wood veneer is also available with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback or Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order.
It is usually book matched and sometimes slip matched, with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Standard grade vertical grain wood veneer normally allows for some defects such as occasional pin knots, small mineral streaks and very slight pitch pockets. Premium grade of vertical grain douglas fir wood veneer is sometimes referred to as comb grain douglas fir veneer and has a very tight, straight grain with almost no defects. Douglas fir is a very common softwood of medium density that is easy to work with, very strong, and has a smooth soft texture. The alternating early and latewood in douglas fir veneer creates a straight pinstripe pattern that runs the length of the sheet. Vertical grain douglas fir wood veneer accepts stains and finishes well.
