Description
Makore veneer, also known as quartered makore wood veneer or quarter cut plain makore veneer, is typically a deep pinkish-brown to a darker red-brown color. It is available in 4’ x 8’ and 4’ x 10’ FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed veneer sheets with the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Makore wood veneer is also available as 8′ x 4′ cross grain sheets and with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback or Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order.
It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Quarter cut, makore is sometimes referred to as rift cut makore. Quarter cut makore wood veneer is uniform and rather plain in appearance with very slight wavy or mottled figure not uncommon. Makore is an African hardwood of medium density that has occasional light silica inclusions. Generally standard grade makore wood veneer has a fine to medium texture with tight pores and lustrous grain. Makore wood veneer will accept stains and finishes well but is usually finished with a clear coat that preserves the warm luminescent beauty of the wood’s natural color.
