Description
Hickory veneer, also known as flat cut calico hickory wood veneer or plain sliced two toned hickory veneer is typically a pale yellow beige and a contrasting creamy reddish light brown color. It is available in 4’ x 8’ and 4’ x 10’ FlexVen™ 10 and FlexVen™ 20 paper backed veneer sheets with the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option. Hickory veneer is also available as 8′ x 4′ cross grain sheets and with the Tuf-Pli™ polyback or Pli-Flex™ wood on wood backer options as special order. Hickory wood veneer can be purchased with all sapwood or all heartwood for a more consistent color effect.
It is usually book matched with the grain running along the 8’ dimension. Flat cut hickory wood veneer is often two toned and the stark combination of light sapwood and dark heartwood is used for a naturally bold effect. Standard A grade flat cut hickory veneer commonly allows for some defects such as occasional pin knots and small mineral streaks. Hickory is a hardwood that is hard and dense but relatively easy to work with. It is strong, with a medium coarse texture and moderately porous grain. Hickory wood veneer will accept stains and finishes well but is usually finished with a clear coat that preserves the warmth and beauty of the wood’s natural calico color.
